Residential Developments

The Atrium

The Atrium is located at the base of the natural escarpment of St Brelade's Bay. The site is within the Island Plan’s Built-Up Area Zone and the wooded hillside to the North, falls within the Green Backdrop Zone. The steeply sloping site enjoys spectacular panoramic views of the sweep of the Bay to the South.

Private House West

This site is situated in the West of the Island with spectacular coastal views. It was originally the setting of two small cottages and a four-storey Hotel that formerly dominated the site. Godel Architects were appointed to design and deliver a substantial home, in an architectural language that would showcase the site and its views over the bays.

Le Vouest

Godel Architects were appointed by the Clients to breathe new life into the semi-derelict site, that was listed as a Site of Special Interest, and was therefore in need of careful consideration during its renovation; not only in the spatial design, but in the construction techniques and detailing employed to in its transformation. The brief was to develop a collection of three farm buildings into a complex of domestic suites to together, operate as a family home.

L'Orangerie

Godel Architects were appointed by the owners to design and deliver a new dwelling on the land lying directly adjacent to the 1932 Arthur Grayson house, “Les Lumieres”, in 2011. The new building was styled and massed to complement its prestigious neighbour, whilst boldly standing as a fine piece of architecture in its own right.

Sycamore Cottage

The old property in Le Mourier Valley was originally constructed over two eras; the main house in Circa 1800 with a later addition to the North being constructed in the latter 19th Century. The house has a multitude of charming and rare details and features, such as a carving of a human face that appears on the South gable.

Chant De La Mer

Godel Architects designed a new home that is split over three levels, formed to not only take advantage of the spectacular views, but to flow in a welcoming and easy manner, providing carefully proportioned rooms, filled with light and air. This was achieved by the introduction of carefully oriented and sized openings, giving near views into intimate, attractive landscaped courtyards and open terraces and patios, with extensive views out to the bay and the sea beyond.

North Coast House

The site is dramatically perched at the top of the escarpment above Wolf’s Caves, within the Coastal National Park, securing incredible views across the cliffs towards the other Channel Islands and the coast of France.

South Coast House

The site is situated within the Parish of St Peter, and has far-reaching views over St Aubin's Bay. The client approached Godel Architects with a view to remodel and extend the house to create a family home equipped to meet modern day needs, whilst making the most of the site and its existing structures.

La Scanie

The house is located on an elevated site overlooking St Brelade’s Bay, with outstanding views to the South and West over the beach and orientated for excellent solar gain.

La Vielle Maison

The project involved the refurbishment of an existing dilapidated property, which was little more than rubble in places, sited in a secluded valley location. The aim of this scheme was to develop the building to create a family home, and to bring the architecture back to its former glory.

Cliff Top House

This fine Art Deco style residence is situated high above the coastal landscape commanding spectacular views of the panoramic oceanic vistas.

La Pinede

Godel Architects were approached in March 2011 to design and deliver a replacement building for an existing single-storey property on a cliff-top site.

Carteret House

Godel Architects were approached by the developer-client to develop an existing house, which was looking tired and dated, to transform it into a crisp and contemporary home. The site is located on Jersey’s North-East coast and offers spectacular views of the sea to the Ecrehous and beyond to Carteret in France.

Le Marais

The house located on the outskirts of St Ouen's village, benefits from a large garden and rural outlook. Previously refurbished in the 1980's, the house was aesthetically and architecturally unremarkable and the Clients wished to upgrade both the interior & exterior of the building to create an attractive, airy home and to adapt the building to a more modern way of living

Sion Chapel

The Chapel is a Grade 1 listed building and an iconic landmark, on La Grande Route de St Jean. Having become redundant as a place of worship, permission had been previously granted for conversion of the Chapel into a single family home, as part of a larger scheme to renovate the adjoining buildings and to build new dwellings at the rear of the site.

Furze Cottage

This cottage, listed as a Site of Special Interest during the application procedure, was the summer house of a former Bailiff of Jersey.

Sea View

Seaview Farm is a listed, intact grouping of traditional Jersey buildings and is an exceptional example of its type, dating from the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries and organised around a central courtyard.

Residential Developments

Sandbanks

Godel Architects were approached by a developer-client to design a collection of homes in St Clement, to fulfill a range of market-types, on the site of the former Samares Coast Hotel. This development consists of several houses and apartments, brought together with sensitive and intelligent use of the site. The houses face an internal green, reminiscent of the tradition English village, and the apartments and town houses are orientated to take in the attractive views over the beach.

Chant de la Mer, Grouville

This site was once the Bistro Rocque Restaurant, in Grouville. The original property had been considerably extended over the years so that the site was of little architectural merit. Godel Architects were approached by the client to design a new residential development on this visually prominent and well-known site.

Whitton Grange

This was a refurbishment, partial conversion and extension of a substantial country family home. The remodeling included a new stunning timber staircase, and internal amendments to parts of the layout to allow easier movement through the spaces, which is important due to the building’s linear wings.

Countryside Office

Conversion of existing outbuildings to provide an open plan architectural office with increased facilities for Godel Architects.

L'Etaile

The owner approached Godel Architects with a brief to prepare designs for a new home purpose-built for the applicants’ family and future generations, on a site where an existing three-bedroom dwelling stood.

Navigator Restaurant

The original restaurant had severe limitations in that the eating area was enclosed by a canvas enclosure which leaked and provided very little protection from the elements.

La Braye Cafe

The brief from the clients was to create a new, more attractive building than exists at the moment, which would enable the café to take full advantage of the available views, as well as to remain open (and extend the client base) during the winter months.

La Grande Maison

In 2012, Godel Architects were appointed by a developer to re-design a previous planning-approved scheme for the conversion of this listed C19 outbuilding . The brief required the conversion of a large barn to form three 3-bed cottages complemented by extensive external landscaping. To ensure a sympathetic appearance it was critical to employ traditional techniques and materials to complement the existing buildings’ structure and historical setting

La Pompe

The original building (19th century house constructed by William Blampied and Alfred Le Sueur) consisted of two main storeys in a three-bay configuration, a western two-storey extension, a basement bakehouse, stores, plus an attic space and hay loft.
The design was required to provide a balance between preservation and refurbishment and extension, whilst ultimately providing a high-quality, modern-day family home.

Clos Gabourel

This Developer-led scheme was designed to replace two commercial sheds with four new family homes. The brief also required the inclusion of an existing barn in the development.

Ann Court

This scheme was prepared as part of a competition entry for a housing development in central St Helier for a Housing Trust.

It included two levels of basement parking for 259 cars and 188 flats arranged over four to five floors, with pedestrian routes and public spaces creating a permeable and attractive urban landscape.

Le Caprice

On the site of a demolished 1960s bungalow, this contemporary house was designed and gained Planning permission in 2014, completing two years later.

Peverell

Located on the St Clement coastline, this one of a kind piece of architecture has become something of a landmark on the Island and is a fantastic example of the breadth Godel Architects’ design capabilities.

Chantry

The site is located at the far end of La Rue du Cap Verde in St Lawrence and is a Listed Granite house, whose origins are believed to date to the 1500s, with some evidence that some parts date back as far as 1380. Godel Architects were appointed by the clients to remodel and extend the main house, and to design a new garage and guest house, as a second phase.

Cote du Mont

The scheme was developed with a concept of linear, striated levels, allowing almost all rooms to enjoy the fantastic vistas. This strategy also afforded the opportunity to extend the concept into the landscaping, by means of a number of tiered external levels, each providing a function of their own, be it al fresco dining, or a fabulous swimming pool.

Le Vignoble

This scheme was the refurbishment and extension of a 1960s bungalow. The house was aesthetically and architecturally unremarkable and the Clients wished to upgrade both the interior & exterior of the building to create an attractive, airy home and to adapt the building to a more modern way of living.

Anchor Lodge

The design of this shore-line house is crisp and modern, providing a functional but warm multi-generational home, that sits comfortably nestled between the surrounding older buildings.

La Rosiere

Godel Architects were appointed by the clients to design and deliver the internal remodeling and refurbishment of a Grade 3 Listed, 18th Century house in St Saviour. This included the conversion of an existing 1970s swimming pool hall, to a family kitchen, dining area and snug.
