This was a refurbishment, partial conversion and extension of a substantial country family home. The remodeling included a new stunning timber staircase, and internal amendments to parts of the layout to allow easier movement through the spaces, which is important due to the building’s linear wings. The generous accommodation was extended into an annex outbuilding with a conversion, that meets contemporary thermal standards and was designed to act as a large guest wing.
Additionally, Godel Architects designed a new swimming pool suite extension, which showcases an indoor pool in a vaulted-ceilinged pool hall, with retractable glazed walls on both sides to open it out to the garden in the summer, and to let in as much light as possible, without direct glare. The guest wing and pool suite are accessed by a granite and glass link, designed in collaboration with the well-known architect and TV presenter, George Clarke.
