L’Etaile

The owner approached Godel Architects with a brief to prepare designs for a new home purpose-built for the applicants’ family and future generations, on a site where an existing three-bedroom dwelling stood.

Taking advantage of the site’s sloping nature, the building is arranged on a series of terraces allowing the stunning views to be maximised on each floor. This terracing arrangement also allows for a flow between internal and external spaces whilst minimising the impact of the building’s mass as a whole.

The property takes advantage of a number of renewable energy devices, resulting in low carbon consumption; including rainwater harvesting for garden irrigation, whole house heat recovery and the efficient use of air source heat pumps to provide hot water and general house heating. This was supplemented by highly insulated external render cladding so that the envelope achieves a very high level of energy efficiency.

The construction was completed in 2015.
