La Scanie

The house is located on an elevated site overlooking St Brelade’s Bay, with outstanding views to the South and West over the beach and orientated for excellent solar gain.

The original house had been extended over the years, resulting in a confusing and awkward layout which almost entirely failed to capitalise on the views, and spatially it performed poorly for the clients’ needs. The Client appointed Godel Architects to create a modern family home, which would address the spatial shortcomings, and which would be energy efficient and of a modernist architectural aesthetic.

The preferred and more sustainable approach was to retain as much of the existing fabric as possible and to adapt the building as necessary, rather than to demolish and rebuild from scratch. This included significant thermal performance upgrades and internally, the house was reconfigured to not only take advantage of the stunning views over the bay, but to flow and operate in a way to serve the clients’ lifestyle. The quality of natural light throughout the interior was also improved significantly, which changed the whole character of the house.

Construction was completed in 2018.
